General Membership Questions
What is IACBE, and what does it do?
IACBE is a global accreditation body that recognizes excellence in business education. We help institutions ensure their business programs meet high academic and industry standards.
How do we become a member of the IACBE?
To join, submit an Application for Educational Membership with information about your institution’s mission, degree authority, and business programs. IACBE reviews each application promptly, and once approved, schools are welcomed as Educational Members with access to resources, support, and the broader IACBE community.
Who can become a member?
Any college or university with business programs that grant undergraduate or graduate degrees, has a publicly stated mission appropriate to higher education, and is authorized to confer degrees by an IACBE approved agency which regulates higher education in its region.
Does IACBE accredit institutions or business programs?
IACBE provides programmatic accreditation—evaluating specific business programs, not entire institutions.
What are the benefits of joining IACBE?

Membership Process & Eligibility
What are the steps to becoming an IACBE member?
Institutions follow a three-step journey:
- Educational Member – Gain mentorship & resources.
- Candidate for Accreditation – Meet candidacy requirements & submit an assessment plan.
- Member with Accredited Programs – Achieve full accreditation.
Can an institution join IACBE if it is already accredited by another agency?
Yes! Many IACBE members hold multiple accreditations.
How long does the accreditation process take?
Once accepted into candidacy, institutions have up to five years to complete accreditation. Most complete the process in 2-4 years. Accreditation is valid for up to 7 years before renewal.
Is my business or accounting program eligible for IACBE accreditation?
IACBE accredits business programs that meet specific credit-hour and curriculum requirements. Details can be found in the IACBE Accreditation Standards.
Costs & Fees
How much does it cost to be a member of IACBE?
For 2025, annual membership dues are $2,750. Accreditation maintenance fees range from $500-$1,500 based on the number of accredited programs.
Are there additional fees for workshops, conferences, and events?
Yes, but IACBE members receive discounted rates.
What forms of payment does IACBE accept for membership dues, conferences, workshops, and site visits?
Payments can be made via check, credit card, or wire transfer.
Accreditation & Compliance
Does IACBE membership guarantee accreditation?
No. Membership allows institutions to begin their journey toward accreditation but does not automatically grant accreditation.
How often do accredited programs need to renew their accreditation?
Accreditation is valid for up to 7 years, after which institutions must undergo reaffirmation.

Is IACBE recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)?
Yes. The IACBE is recognized by the CHEA, which affirms the quality and credibility of our accreditation standards. This recognition means IACBE meets rigorous expectations for academic excellence and accountability, giving additional assurance to institutions, students, and stakeholders.

Does the IACBE have a mentoring program?
Yes, IACBE offers mentorship programs to guide members through accreditation.
Should I attend the IACBE annual conference?
Yes! The Annual Conference and Assembly Meeting (ACAM) provides professional development, networking, and accreditation updates.
How do I become a site-visit peer reviewer?
To serve as a site visit peer reviewer, you must be an active faculty or staff member at an institution with IACBE-accredited programs and have at least two years of recent experience with the IACBE accreditation process.
Interested individuals complete an application, and once accepted, pay a one-time initial fee, attend a two-day training session, and observe a virtual visit before serving on a team. To learn more or apply, contact accreditation@iacbe.org.
