IACBE President Meets with Afghani Ministry of Higher Education and Conducts International Accreditation Forum in Afghanistan
Lenexa, Kansas, USA (September 2013) – On September 9-12, 2013, Mr. Dennis Gash, President of the IACBE, traveled to Kabul, Afghanistan to meet with officials from the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Afghanistan Higher Education Institutions Association (AHEIA).
On his visit to the MOHE, Mr. Gash met with Mr. Masoud Tarshtwal, Director General of Private Institutions. The high-level discussions with the ministry focused on the ways in which the IACBE could contribute to economic reconstruction, the development of the higher education system, and the rebuilding of a sustainable and stable society in Afghanistan. In this transformative process, the IACBE will work with Afghan higher education institutions to foster excellence in business education through student-focused and outcomes-based quality assurance. By partnering with institutions of higher education in Afghanistan, the IACBE will help to build a bridge to understanding and reconciliation within the country, thereby creating the potential for long-term peace and stability.
As a first step in accomplishing these objectives, the MOHE officially endorsed the IACBE as its recognized international accrediting agency for business and management education in Afghani institutions of higher education.
In addition, as part of a conference on “International Accreditation and Quality Assurance” sponsored by the AHEIA and hosted by Kabul University, Mr. Gash also conducted an international accreditation forum for Afghan higher education institutions. Well over 200 representatives from both public and private higher education institutions in Afghanistan attended the forum, which highlighted the IACBE's mission and accreditation philosophy, its outcomes-based approach to quality assurance and advancement, and its processes for enhancing academic quality in business schools and programs.
In advancing its mission of providing support to private institutions in Afghanistan, the AHEIA joined the MOHE in endorsing the IACBE as its recognized international accreditor for Afghani business and management education.
The IACBE-MOHE-AHEIA relationships recognize the importance and potential of higher education in creating hope for a better future in Afghanistan, and represents a significant step in rebuilding the higher education system in the country. The IACBE is honored and privileged to have been endorsed by the MOHE and AHEIA, and to have the opportunity to contribute to the process of creating a lasting peace in Afghanistan.
On his visit to Afghanistan, Mr. Gash also accompanied a team that conducted candidacy visits to Kardan University and Dunya University, both of which are located in Kabul.
