IACBE President Visits Kardan University and Meets with Afghan Ministry of
Higher Education in Kabul, Afghanistan
Lenexa, Kansas, USA (November 2014) – On October 8-10, 2014, Mr. Dennis Gash, President of the IACBE, accompanied a site-visit team to Kardan University and met with officials from the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in Kabul, Afghanistan.
On his visit to Kabul, Mr. Gash was part of a site-visit team that conducted a visit for first-time accreditation to Kardan University – the first institution of higher education in Afghanistan to pursue international accreditation for its business and management programs. In addition to Mr. Gash, the site-visit team consisted of Dr. Archish Maharaja from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA and Dr. V.J. Byra Reddy from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Dehradun, India.
Mr. Gash also had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Obaidullah Obaid, Minister of Higher Education for Afghanistan. The high-level discussions with the minister focused on the ways in which the IACBE could partner with the ministry’s newly-formed quality cell. The IACBE will work with the quality cell and other ministry officials to develop a comprehensive national quality assurance framework for all public and private institutions of higher education in Afghanistan that are authorized and recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education.
By partnering with the ministry and institutions of higher education in Afghanistan, the IACBE will help to build a bridge to understanding and reconciliation within the country, thereby creating the potential for long-term peace and stability. The IACBE-MOHE relationship recognizes the importance and potential of higher education in creating hope for a better future in Afghanistan, and represents a significant step in rebuilding the higher education system in the country. The IACBE is honored and privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to the process of creating a lasting peace in Afghanistan.
