IACBE members Maharishi University of Management and Marylhurst University have joined forces to form the Summer MBA Sustainability Consortium. The consortium is a cooperative endeavor through which member institutions may offer summer MBA courses related to sustainable business, and MBA students from any consortium member may take the courses for transfer credit.

The SBS-Swiss Business School in Kloten, Switzerland publishes an academic journal entitled SBS Journal of Applied Business Research. The SBS-JABR seeks to create a new formal channel of communication between universities, business schools, and management practitioners for the discussion and strategic analysis of issues relating to the management of global competition worldwide.

Ramaiah Institute of Management Studies Recognized by the American Society for Quality
The Ramaiah Institute of Management Studies (RIMS) in Bangalore, India recently received the International Team Excellence Award at the 2012 World Conference of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Teams from all over the world participate in ASQ's International Team Excellence Award competition, and must demonstrate the extent to which their projects meet ASQ's thirty-seven evaluation criteria. RIMS' project focused on offering enhanced training to its students that would translate into better employment opportunities thereby improving their lives. The RIMS team was able to use quality criteria to effect both social change within their organization as well as a financial impact throughout the community by increasing the employability of its graduates.

IACBE Member Schools Named as "Great Colleges to Work For" in 2012
Several IACBE member schools have been ranked among the 103 best colleges to work for in the latest survey conducted by The Chronicle of Higher Education. In the survey, twelve features of excellent academic workplaces were identified, and faculty and staff at colleges of all sizes and types across the country were asked to assess their employers in those terms. In the 2012 survey, the following members of the IACBE were recognized:

- McKendree University (IL)

McKendree University Named to Honor Roll in 2012 Survey of "Great College to Work For"
The Chronicle of Higher Education has named McKendree University (IL) one of the best among the best colleges to work for in 2012. The Chronicle identified twelve features of excellent academic workplaces and asked faculty and staff at colleges of all sizes and types across the country to assess their employers in those terms. In the most recent survey, McKendree University was an "Honor Roll" institution in the "Medium-Sized College" category. This means that the university was among the top ten institutions that were recognized in the most individual survey criteria.

Southern Adventist University Professor Authors Faith-Based Management Textbook
Michael Cafferky, a management professor at Southern Adventist University, has authored a new textbook that explores management issues from a faith-based perspective. Entitled Management: A Faith-Based Perspective (Pearson; ISBN: 9780136058342), the textbook will be published in August 2011 and offers students the opportunity to explore contemporary management issues through the perspective of Christian faith. Peer reviewed by over 25 management and leadership professors from a variety of Christian denominations, this ground-breaking text is designed for scholars at Christian colleges and universities who desire to explore and integrate a perspective founded on the values and teachings common to Christian denominations.
The Preface of this text introduces the assumptions on which the book is built and how the text was carefully designed to integrate the biblical record on major management issues and contemporary management scholarship findings. Each chapter highlights the record of the Christian Bible that addresses the big questions of the chapter, introduces the major themes and topics from contemporary management scholarship, and ends with debatable issues for Christian scholars to consider when clarifying how their personal religious beliefs guide their managerial thinking and action.
The chapters were designed around a “Management Pyramid” conceptual model that shows how the major management topics are integrated into the values, thinking, and action of practicing managers. A recurring feature called "The Christian Mind On..." introduces voices of other Christian scholars on important management topics such as efficiency, effectiveness, utilitarianism, planning, decision making, downsizing, progressive discipline, etc. Each chapter presents some of the common management tensions experienced by practicing managers. In addition, the final chapter and the Appendices offer the Christian scholar the opportunity to explore questions directly related to faith integration and Christian spirituality. The book presents several case studies designed to foster discussion on Christian faith integration issues.
The author of the text, Michael E. Cafferky, DBA MDiv, has been a Professor of Business and Management at Southern Adventist University since 2003. In 2011, the faculty of Southern Adventist University chose Dr. Cafferky to receive the prestigious President's Award for Excellence in Scholarship. Prior to beginning his work as a professor, Cafferky served for twenty years in healthcare administration at various levels of management including roles as assistant department director, department manager, director of marketing, executive director of managed care, chief financial officer, chief operating officer, and interim chief executive officer.

CENTRUM Católica Forms Strategic Alliance with Johns Hopkins Carey Business School
CENTRUM Católica, the Business Center of The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, as part of a strategic alliance with Johns Hopkins Carey Business School has participated in the implementation of the Innovation for Humanity Project in Peru.
The Innovation for Humanity Project is a 2-credit course of the Global MBA of Johns Hopkins Carey Business School that provides a learning experience focused on the challenges of building sustainable, impactful businesses in emerging global marketplaces. The course aims to create in each student an appreciation of entrepreneurial opportunities in critical sectors of human need in these complex, resource-constrained markets that are plagued by fragmented infrastructure.
The 2010-2011 implementation of the Innovation for Humanity Project is offered at five sites: Rwanda, Peru, Kenya, India and a domestic US site. Students are assigned to 4-6 person teams with balanced sets of background skills and disciplinary interests.
On January 2011, a group of 22 students from the Global MBA traveled to Peru for a 20-day field-work experience and country assessment with two Peruvian institutions within the Health Sector: Servicios de Medicinas Pro Vida and Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho where they delivered four important projects.

Professor of Finance from Southeastern University Publishes Article on Outcomes Assessment
Dr. Lyle Bowlin, Professor of Finance in the College of Business and Legal Studies at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, has co-authored an article entitled "Outcomes Assessment: An Examination of the ETS Major Field Test and the Comprehensive Business Exam." The article was published in the journal Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, and is the first to study student performance differences between the two assurance of learning exams in business. The article presents research results that have important implications for the assessment of student learning. Read an abstract of the article here:
