IACBE accreditation provides many benefits:
Enhanced reputation. In 1988, only 288 of the approximately 1400 US colleges and universities offering bachelors or graduate degrees in business had their programs accredited. Now, more than half do; in ten more years, it is anticipated that over 90 percent of these programs will have specialized accreditation. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important to an institution’s reputation to have achieved accredited status for its business programs.
Evidence of quality. Through its accreditation process, the IACBE provides external assurance of quality in an institution’s business programs, and ensures that the characteristics of excellence are evident in the academic business unit. The business curriculum and co-curricular experiences provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to function effectively in business and industry. Both graduates and their employers need and are entitled to this quality assurance.
Continuous improvement. Change is constant, either for the better or the worse. Continuous improvement is proactive—it confronts the changing environment and helps prevent slippage in the quality of business education. Continuous improvement is an integral part of the IACBE’s accreditation process.
Best practices. The IACBE supports and promotes best practices in business education. The IACBE provides conferences and workshops for professional development of its membership and exposes them to best practices in business education.
Accountability. Specialized accreditation provides external accountability for the quality of business programs. The demand of the public for accountability in higher education is increasing rapidly.
International perspectives. The IACBE accredits business programs in colleges and universities throughout the world. Institutions outside the United States with quality business programs are encouraged to obtain specialized accreditation, which allows them the opportunity to partner and have student/faculty exchanges with IACBE member institutions. The IACBE’s mission-driven, outcomes-oriented approach to accreditation allows it to accommodate the distinctive characteristics of international educational institutions.
