Why should I join the IACBE?

The IACBE is the premier business accrediting association for programs in student-centered colleges and universities. If you are interested in being part of an organization that helps you to strengthen your business programs, then the IACBE may be right for you. The IACBE exists to encourage, develop, and recognize excellence in business education. Our philosophy of accreditation sets us apart. Hundreds of institutions have found that membership in and accreditation by the IACBE have helped them to continuously improve their business programs. Our members testify that involvement in the IACBE has been a worthwhile investment. [top]

What are the differences among the IACBE, ACBSP, and AACSB?

There are three professional business accrediting associations: the IACBE, the ACBSP, and the AACSB. Each has its own philosophy of accreditation and exists to serve particular groups of colleges and universities.

The IACBE exists to encourage, develop, and recognize excellence in business education in student-centered colleges and universities. The IACBE accredits business and business-related degree programs in colleges and universities that offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The IACBE’s accreditation process is mission sensitive and outcomes based.

The ACBSP accredits degree programs in both junior colleges and senior colleges. While the ACBSP has become more outcomes based, its accreditation process tends to be more prescriptive than the IACBE’s.

The AACSB serves institutions for which research is a high priority. It is the most prescriptive of the three business accrediting associations. [top]

What is an outcomes assessment plan?

An outcomes assessment plan is a document that describes the process that will be used for the continuous quality enhancement of a business degree program. The outcomes assessment process is based on the mission and broad-based goals of your business program, and provides a way for you to continually improve your business program. Click here for more information concerning the key content areas of an outcomes assessment plan. [top]

How soon do I need to have an outcomes assessment plan?

To be accepted into candidacy, you must submit a completed outcomes assessment plan. This allows your plan to be reviewed and improved. Once your completed outcomes assessment plan has been approved, the plan should be fully implemented. You will then be able to gather and assess results and use this information to make meaningful changes and improvements to your business programs. Click here for more information concerning the key content areas of an outcomes assessment plan. [top]

How long can I be a candidate for accreditation?

The maximum length of candidacy is five years. In unusual situations, the IACBE Board of Commissioners may grant a single one-year extension to candidacy. [top]
