The IACBE presents the following awards of excellence at its Annual Conference and Assembly Meeting:

  • The John L. Green Award for Excellence in Business Education
  • The Frank V. Mastrianna Education Leader of the Year Award
  • The Excellence in Teaching Award
  • The Business Leader of the Year Award

Dr. John L. Green, Jr.The John L. Green Award for Excellence in Business Education

The John L. Green Award for Excellence in Business Education honors individuals who have made significant contributions that advance the cause of academic quality in business education in a manner consistent with the IACBE’s “Characteristics of Excellence in Business Education.”

The award is named for Dr. John L. Green, Jr., founder and President Emeritus of the IACBE, who spent most of his life helping others to achieve excellence in business education. Dr. Green’s vision was that small- and medium-sized business schools with teaching-oriented missions should be recognized for their excellence. To that end, Dr. Green founded two business accrediting associations: the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) in 1989, and the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE) in 1997. In doing so, Dr. Green made business accreditation possible for hundreds of institutions worldwide that previously had no opportunities for specialized accreditation in business.

The recipient of the award is chosen based on the following criteria:

Contribution to Excellence in Business Education

The foremost criterion for this award is that the recipient will have made significant contributions that have advanced the cause of academic quality in business education in a manner consistent with the IACBE’s “Characteristics of Excellence in Business Education.”

Member of the IACBE Community

The recipient must be a member of the IACBE community. That is, the recipient must be connected with the IACBE or a member of the IACBE. Examples include, but are not limited to, faculty or administrators of IACBE members, governing board or advisory board members at IACBE institutions, public members of IACBE boards, IACBE staff members, or financial contributors to the IACBE.

Dr. Frank V. MastriannaThe Frank V. Mastrianna Education Leader of the Year Award

The Frank V. Mastrianna Education Leader of the Year Award honors individuals who are exemplary higher education leaders and who have made significant contributions to an institution of higher education or a higher education organization.

The award is named for the late Dr. Frank V. Mastrianna, who was a dear friend and valued member of the IACBE family. Dr. Mastrianna graduated cum laude from Xavier University and earned his doctorate in economics from the University of Cincinnati. He served as Chair of the Department of Economics and Industrial Relations, Dean of the College of Business Administration, and Acting President of Xavier University. In addition, Dr. Mastrianna was the first Dean of the School of Information Science and Business at Slippery Rock University. After serving in that capacity for 15 years, he retired from Slippery Rock and was named Dean Emeritus. Dr. Mastrianna served on the Boards of Directors of Union Central Life Insurance Company, Ameritus Holding Company, and the International Academy of Business Disciplines, becoming the latter organization’s second president. Dr. Mastrianna served faithfully as the public member of the IACBE’s Board of Commissioners from 2004 until his passing.

The recipient of the award must be a part of the IACBE community and is chosen based on the following criteria:

Contribution to Education

The recipient will have been an executive, administrator, or leader of an institution of higher education or a higher education organization and will have played a significant role in the success of that institution or organization.

Contribution to the Community

The recipient will have used his or her influence, expertise, and/or resources to give back to the community in a meaningful and significant way.

Contribution to the IACBE and/or Members of the IACBE

The recipient will have used his or her influence, expertise, and/or resources to make positive contributions to the IACBE and/or a member of the IACBE in a way that contributes to excellence in business education.

The Excellence in Teaching Award

The Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes an exemplary teacher/professor who is part of the IACBE community and is chosen based on the following criteria:

Contribution to Students

The recipient will have used his or her expertise to make meaningful and significant contributions to student learning in a way that advances academic quality in business education.

Member of the IACBE Community

The recipient must be a full-time faculty member at an IACBE member institution.

The Business Leader of the Year Award

The Business Leader of the Year Award recognizes an exemplary businessperson who is part of the IACBE community and is chosen based on the following criteria:

Contribution to Business

The recipient will have played a leading role in the success of a company as an entrepreneur and/or corporate leader.

Contribution to the Community

The recipient will have used his or her influence, expertise, and/or resources to give back to the community in a meaningful and significant way.

Contribution to the IACBE and/or Members of the IACBE

The recipient will have used his or her influence, expertise, and/or resources to make positive contributions to the IACBE and/or a member of the IACBE in a way that contributes to excellence in business education.

Member of the IACBE Community

The recipient must be connected with the IACBE or a member of the IACBE. Examples include, but are not limited to, a supporter, trustee, employer, business advisory council member, or adjunct faculty member at an academic business unit member of the IACBE; or a supporter or public board member of the IACBE. Active, full-time faculty members are not eligible for this award.
